AMERICAN CANYON, Napa County — October 26, 2026. Voters in American Canyon face a city sales-tax decision in the November 3 general election. Measure P proposes adding one percentage point to the local sales tax, raising the combined rate from 7.75% to 8.75% if approved.
How much would consumers pay?
On a $100 taxable purchase, the proposed additional local tax would be $1. City officials estimate $3.7 million in additional annual revenue from eligible local and delivered purchases. This is a projection, not a guaranteed amount, and the effect on any household depends on taxable purchases. Some goods and services are exempt under state rules.
Where would the money go?
The ballot describes support for emergency response, police and traffic safety, wildfire-risk reduction, street and public-area maintenance, parks, youth activities and senior services. Measure P is a general tax, so these examples do not legally earmark an exact sum for each project. The city says auditing, public spending disclosure and local control are part of the measure.
How long would it last?
Unlike proposals with fixed ten-year sunsets, American Canyon’s Measure P would continue until ended by voters. The city reports a balanced 2026–27 budget but projects a roughly $400,000 general fund gap in 2027–28 and approximately $4.1 million in cumulative gaps over the following five years under its stated assumptions.
What yes or no means: A yes vote would approve the additional local tax. A no vote would leave this proposal unapproved. California58 takes no position on the measure. Read American Canyon’s Measure P explanation and exact ballot question, as well as official voter materials.
